Hearing those four words, “I think I’m pregnant,” is quite a shock. You’re thinking, “How did this happen?” “What am I going to do?”

You know that an abortion procedure can be expensive, but unfortunately, most insurance plans only cover a spouse or dependent children. Check with your HR department to see if there are any exceptions.

Has She Confirmed the Pregnancy?

Even if your girlfriend took a home pregnancy test, you should still have her confirm the pregnancy. How do you do that? With a limited obstetrical ultrasound.

PCS Health is a California State-licensed medical facility providing free pregnancy services, such as medical grade pregnancy tests and limited OB ultrasounds. Have her schedule an appointment for free pregnancy testing. If her period is already late, now’s the time to come in and test.

However, a positive pregnancy test only indicates the possibility of pregnancy. If she gets a positive result, her next step is to have a limited OB ultrasound. We’ll also provide a free ultrasound.

Here’s Why She Needs an Ultrasound

You’ll learn if the pregnancy is developing or if she’s miscarried. Experts estimate that as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. That’s over one in four pregnancies! Most of those occur in the first 12 weeks.

It’s possible to get a false-positive test result even after a miscarriage because pregnancy hormones can remain in her body for days or weeks after a miscarriage. It takes time for her body to return to pre-pregnancy hormone levels.

You’ll also learn how far along she is. The FDA approves the use of the abortion pill method through 10 weeks of pregnancy only. The later she is, the less effective the drugs are.

There’s also something called an ectopic pregnancy. This means the pregnancy is growing in the wrong place. An abortion doesn’t end an ectopic pregnancy, and it can be extremely dangerous, even life-threatening.

Get Her the Help and Information She Needs

The best way to move forward is to receive free and confidential services from PCS Health. You don’t need money; she just needs to bring a valid photo ID (either a driver’s license or school ID).

Although we do not perform or refer for abortion, we can provide you and your girlfriend with the information she needs to protect her health and safety.

We’ll also provide factual, evidence-based information about abortion procedures, the side effects to expect, and the potential physical and emotional risks. Have your girlfriend call us at (530) 626-6720 or text us at (530) 363-8110.

Don’t go it alone. We’re here to help you both.
